Turned from a single piece of hardwood, no seams to split under the twist you use to press mint against glass. The tip stays unfinished, so it grips leaves and sugar without smearing them into paste. Long enough to work a mixing glass or a highball without your knuckles catching the rim. Use it to crush ice for a smash, express oil from a citrus peel, or break down sugar cubes for an old fashioned. It takes lime and sugar acid better than the varnished dowels that show up in bar starter kits. One tool, one job, done the same way every service, whether the ticket rail is empty or six deep.
A metal-tipped muddler bruises the bottom of a glass and a plastic one shreds mint into confetti. This one is dense enough to crush ice in three or four presses instead of ten, and the wood grain gives it just enough bite to pull oil from a mint leaf without tearing it apart. It lives in the well, gets rinsed, gets used again, and doesn't need replacing every season the way the cheap turned-dowel versions do.
